OT - CIEN

OT - CIEN - reported results, beat most expectations, slight hint of a possible hiccup going forward. Stock down a bit below 5%. Unless I'm missing something, I think the news didn't deserve a 5% haircut by any means. It may also be partly a reaction to what I've described as possible overvaluation, given the run its had. Given the premium collected, I'm down very little. And instead of re-writing calls, I'm going to hold onto what I bought recently, as I think their future looks pretty good, and I think the analysts are more likely than not to come out and defend the stock.

I think CIEN is the strong pure optical play.  The stock got ahead of itself but not by much, IMO.  Lots of 5G contracts being signed by all three major players, telcos will need to fatten the pipes to upstream those basestations to all the central offices and fatten the pipes between the central offices and then between cities, and so on.  My point being that this will generate lots of sales in coming quarters and years ahead, as I still believe this will be a good 4 to 5 year cycle.  Not going to be straight up but it will be an upward jagged chart, as is usually the case.

So IMO, for those not yet in the stock, this is a good point to start accumulating. Or to keep accumulating.

I believe this article pretty much nails which companies are worth a look for this 5G cycle.  It does not have CIEN in it, instead it lists CSCO (for its automation in setting up data centers for 5G and its complete networking portfolio) and NOK for its complete end to end portfolio, i.e. 5G and networking portfolio.  Lists INTC and QCOM, which I think will be big winners in 5G. On the computing side it mentions HPE which apparently introduced new Edge Servers which this author believes gives it a heavy advantage at this point in time.  That said, HPE is in a highly competitive market, so IMO it would be the more speculative play, where as the other 4 are dead on, IMO.
