OT - Telecoms
Verizon
OT - Verizon - stock is up 2% today on the announcement that it
will deploy 5g in 3 to 5 markets in 2018. Big whoop, no? Or am I
missing something of significance?
Oh, and just by the way - Jon and I had watched small-cell
center maker Cavium go from 140 to 170 a couple of years ago. Got
bought out last week by a larger company. No idea o the price, but
it must've been a sweet day for holders.

This is the fixed 5G, ian alternative to wireline. It
saves a ton of money on deployments, as it does not need crews
digging neighboorhoods.

lt cap,
Not that it'd matter, I'd think, given the size of the
deployment, but switching equipment would be needed, whether new
optical cable was put in or not, no? Or does there need to be
digging in order for a company like NOK to benefit? This all
pales in comparison to the downgrade today of NOK by BNP Paribas
from neutral to underperform. Almost hard to believe that a non
first-rank analyst/brokerage would be able to move the stock down
3.5%, unless there is some undeniable material reason for the
downgrade - as opposed to yes, the sector sucks right now, get used
to it.
I cannot believe that I bought the absolute top on NVDA and ISRG
after mulling it for more than a year. I'd cut my losses and run,
but the only danger that seems palpable is perhaps they got ahead
of themselves. I simply don't see some fundamental problem with
either company's prospects going forward. AMD is down about 5%
today as well. There are crypto-currency mining concerns attached
to stocks that make GPUs. But having read that one of the ways
states like North Korea and terrorist organizations like Hezbollah
create wealth is to mine the hell out of such currencies. In any
case, I think NVDA is applicable to so many things going forward, I
think their time has come. (Or, conversely, perversely, I sure hope
their time hasn't come and gone. This is painful day after
day.)
And kudos to Jester on the EA call - it has broken well below
the 105 target. There are some games that a fanbase will play, no
matter how bad they are. Battlefront II may not be one of them.
Clean up, my friend.

Did not mean to imply Nokia would not benefit, just wanted to
clarify that VZ 5G roll out was a fixed 5G deployment, which
competes with typical wireline fiber or DSL.
