OT - Occulus Rift
Interesting that Newegg has a promotion dropping the Occuslus
Rift plus a controller for $399, a 1/3rd drop in price. Best Buy
will match it, plus throw in 7 games. Perhaps it's a one-time promo
-but I also wonder whether its a harbinger that prices on all of
the VR headset offerings are on the way down, and will start to
make VR more mainstream gaming. It's inevitable, I think.

It seems that despite company assurances, sales are slow for the
Oculus Rft, hence the second price cut in 5 months. This one is
supposedly temporary and lasting 6 weeks. Sales have also
been slow for PSVR., which sold 915K from October to February, then
it took another 3.5 months to reach 1M. So far, VR has just been a
niche novelty. I had previously expected a lot of developers to
suffer due to low hardware penetration because a year ago it seemed
like everyone and their brother were doing VR games. Now AR
(augmented reality) is the new hotness.

OT - Jester, lt cap,
I'm hoping that Intel isn't quite deep enough in challenges to
drag them down below 30, but once the analysts begin beating it
down it tends to just snowball. I do wonder how much of the revs
from the new memory they developed with Micro will be used to
offset the challenges. Clearly not nearly all the 'sins', but it'd
be interesting to see what the future of that looks like. And the
way Intel has lost leverage with the 'strong arm' tactics it used
to uses to keep rivals in line no longer exists.
On VR, came across a couple of different things: One report
cited the poor 3rd place sales of oculus rift to Sony's vr and the
HTC hive. So that might've triggered the huge price drop. And it
may not be temporary - one news story I read has an Oculus manager
saying that they're coming down to the $350 price point they'd
already planned near the introduction of the oculus. Might be true,
might be horse pucky. But it's worth anything to make sure that
you've got good/great content, and that doesn't happen if the
subscriber base is small. Playstation VR, perhaps the best
positioned vr device, dropped its price to $445 briefly yesterday.
(And the Oculus Rift, where I did a PM yesterday at Best Buy, was
discounted in the wee hours of the morning by Amazon for the new
$399 price, and they threw in a $100 Amazon gift card. Site was so
screwed up I got stung, as I paid for it and then they un-sold it
to me. Damn.
And I read that Google, before allowing you to visit a
pirate/torrent site, makes you read a number of laws and policies,
and if you refuse, they'll disconnect all Google services from you.
Kind of a funny policy against even the hint of 'stealing', when
they were compiling google maps and collecting ip addresses and
other private info as they 'trolled' up your street.
