OT - Optical
networking
OT - opt net - Nokia announced introduction of its 'Passive
Optical LAN' network, and is apparently getting slightly punished.
But then, it's only the most beaten of a sector that no one seems
to like at the moment - INFN and CIEN also down. And CSCO, which
had been on fire the past month or so, retreated significantly the
last two days - and today, Merill announces cutting it to 'market
perform'. I can understand that perhaps it's come too far, too
fast, but it does seem a bit strange that some people apparently
knew it was time to sell before Merrill hit it with that 'bad'
piece of news.
I am seriously thinking about whether to add more NOK here. I
also wonder whethere NOK could be subject to a 'paradigm shift' the
way InPhi's surprise revelation of its product meaningfully
disrupted INFN's and CIEN's products and plans.
Theoretically, I'd suppose anything is possible - and the ability
of InPhi's people to keep this secret is unsettling. I just wonder
whether all companies are equally exposed to such a thing, or some
more than others, for technical reasons.

I have been looking everywhere for news on NOK. The stock
is behaving as if more bad news is on the way. The stock has
continued to trade lower, I have yet to find anything that can
explain its behavior. If anyone knows anything please post
it. If I find something I will post it.
That said, the stock is IMO very undervalued already. I
have been adding modest amounts in the sub 6 range. I would expect
that with the terribly negative sentiment, that there should be a
point where investors begin to realize the selling has gone to far.
I continue to firmly believe there a ton of unlocked value,
but the market is what it is, so far it does not give a crap
towards NOK.

Lt. cap.,
I have also seen now news for NOK. I did talk with my broker
today, and brought up WTH happened with the NOK-ALU affair in terms
of how it would be considered and how it would be taxed. He
checked, and it is still presented as something that is not yet
formulated/announced or whatever. Sounded simply like no one knows
the details of that because NOK hasn't done anything on that facet
of their dealings.
I was going to make this a PM, but I'm rather puzzled by looking
at the history of my trades:
On Jan 8th, I apparently bought NOK @$7.36 (or there abouts). On
Feb. 1, I bought more NOK @$6.33, or thereabouts - I do not
remember NOK falling by a dollar in that time period. I know there
was some disapointment with the Samsung settlement, and perhaps
disappointment or confusion about their announcing a secondary
offering for outstanding ALU shares beginning about Jan 14th or so.
But a dollar drop in 3 weeks. I don't recall that - thought it
might be an artifact of the acquisition of ALU. Can anyone clarify
that for me? Do I have brain damage? :-)
