OT - NOK

OT - NOK - Cursing myself a bit for not buying more NOK when it was sub-$6, a very short time ago. The 'perception' phenomena is a funny thing - in the $6 teens, NOK 'feels' pricey - probably given how fast and how hard the market can fall apart, as seen recently. But I also looked at where the outstanding ALU shares are trading - ~$3.33 - a price just above where I bought my least expensive ALU shares. If I assume NOK and ALU are marching prettymuch in lock-step, why am I not all over NOK at this price? That perception phenomena is a funny thing. And the direction of the market from here is certainly uncertain - it may 'fall apart' again, perhaps even 'harder'.

I have nibbled at NOK recently, can't buy too much at a time given that I am already pretty much committed with a sizable position :-(

I plan to continue to nibble opportunistically, so to speak. I say this because right or wrong, I believe the market will resume its down trend.

I continue to think that even though this merger will be a challenge in terms of integrating both cultures, it should be managed sucessfully by Rajeev Suri than when Alcatel bought Lucent. That period was especially tough because there were too many Equipment providers and the Service Provider segment was consolidating, making it tougher to compete in a crowded field with a diminishing number of customers. Additionally, the Housing and Financial crisis exploded just a year and a half after the Alcatel Lucent merger was consummated. I should also note the fact that Alcatel had not fully recovered from the dot com bust. Times are quite different. Rajeev is also credited with integrating the Siemens part of the Nokia-Siemens Networks after Nokia bought out the Siemens part of that partnership, so he is not new to integration.

In general terms all the positives are still in place, I continue to believe that now with only three Wireless Networks providers in the world, and with ALU bringing a very strong number two in the world in Routing and Switching, NOK stands to do very well in the future.
