OT - Optical networkers

OT - optical networkers

Read a  story that said US internet speeds have tripled over the last 3 1/2 years. (I wouldn't have guessed, but maybe Comcast is just throttling me.) It cited a number of cities in which Google is offering 1,000MB broadband, as well as ATT and Comcast. As that trends spreads, I can't understand how companies like ATT will not spend some larger capex to build out their infrastructure. So far, they've managed to keep the purse strings rather tight. While the US is fairly 'meh' on the list of countries' internet speeds (16th? 28th? I can't quite recall), I can't see how demand (and competition to match 1,000mb speeds) means that spending is eventually inevitable.
