Read the PR regarding the organizational changes that will
take effect when the merger is finalized.
The PR concentrated on the fact that there will be four
major groups in the combined entity. What stroke me as a
positive is that 3 of those 4 groups will be headed by Alcatel
executives. A Lightreading.com article focused more on the
fact that out of 13 executive positions only 3 were assigned to
Alcatel's execs.
I frankly am not surprised this is the case. Nokia
is the acquirer, and I am sure Rajeev Suri wants the high level
Administrative, Marketing and Sales to be people he has trust in,
known entities. It seems to me that given that Alcatel brings
technology to the table the decision to have three Alcatel execs to
head them is not only appropriate but smart and pragmatic in that
these folks have the expertise and it is likely to result in a much
smoother transition into NOK. Integration is always a
challenge so I am actually impressed with Rajeev's
decision.
That said, there will be some disappointment among high
ranking Alcatel execs in Administrative, Sales and in the CTO
office, but it seems clear to me that most of the high ranking
folks at Alcatel will either leave or let go. Net, net, I am
comfortable with it.
