Networking Sector gaining
strength
Good to see the Networking sector coming into positive focus.
The Sector Fundamentals do promise to gain strength for the
second half and beyond. The only worry I have s if China
Telecoms begin to put the brakes on due to the slowdown there.
Europe however, should gain strength as it comes out of its
recession.

lt cap,
I take companies like CAT as a proxy for the real health of the
world-wide economy, and their report of earnings hurt by poor
demand due to slowdowns in both China and Latin Amercia suggests
that impact likely has meaning for all sectors that are related to
international demand. (I realize that one can argue that CAT is so
tied to commodities that it is too narrow to be such a good
indicator. I had been prepared to write a long screed about
everything from the underlying actual state of the world economy,
to how presidential candidates have begun the 'jobs, jobs, jobs'
drumbeat, despite the fact that not only are we never going to be
able to compete with countries like Vietnam on wages, but that
increasingly sophisticated robots will take the place of factory
workers faster than anyone anticipates, and eventually, not so far
off, will be able to do white collar jobs thought to be impossible
to do robotically, such as psychtherapists, will become realities
as we reach singularity sooner than most people think, unbelievable
as that may sound. I decided that fellow board members should be
spared such pontificating.)
I assume, I hope correctly, that all the different
countries/regions of the world that approve the NOK/ALU merger do
it strictly on the basis of anti-trust issues, and that the price
NOK might (or not) eventually pay for ALU wouldn't impact or
rescind any of those approvals, were it to change. The EU approval
is moving the needle today. Wish I had bought again n the 3.30's -
but may rue that wish given that it may way still see that, and
more. The cool patience of Spock, not to mention Job, will likely
be needed. Live long and prosper.
