Germany is considering a Huawei Ban

From Seeking Alpha:

Germany weighs excluding Huawei from 5G auction

Jan. 17, 2019 3:07 AM ET|By: Yoel Minkoff, SA News Editor

It's a shift from the German government's position in October, when it told lawmakers it saw no legal basis to exclude any vendors from an upcoming 5G auction.

Berlin is now considering ways to bar China's Huawei from a 5G network buildout via stricter security requirements or changes to telecom law.

Competitor watch: Nokia (NYSE:NOK) and Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) could benefit as Western governments increasingly ban Huawei from their markets.

lt cap,

Good news that increasingly, western govts grow leery of security issues connected with Huawei equipment. Of course, the question of who does pick up those contracts is of intense interest. IIRC, NOK reports any day now. (Memory - 23rd? 26th? I'll look it up.) Although I've optioned out a good number of shares for late Feb., and if it finishes below $6, I get to pocket the premium, I'd think that analysts would be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, given that we're entering the 5g transition, which will be a long process. But if they don't have any good progress to report....well, the market seems pretty spooked at the moment.

And I wonder.....if I was China, I'd counter every government that nixed Hauwei products with an equal barrier against their products in that sector (assuming they have competing products.)

In my opinion those telcos that are compelled not to deploy Huawei equipment are likely to consider Nokia over Ericson.  The main reason being is that Nokia has a product portfolio that can replace pretty much all Huawei, especifically wireless, optical and switching and routing equipment. Regular caveats apply of course: so lonmg as it is competitive in quality, service,  functionality and pricing.
