OT - Networkers
OT - Some time ago, typed in a short article from Bloomberg
magazine, saying that 5g wouldn't really be in full swing before
the mid 2020's. It makes me wonder this: Does anyone have an idea
of the 'lag' time between buildout and operationality? If that
story is to be believed, that would be an important indicator of
when the secular sector trend really begins to take hold.

I would guess (underline guess) that an 8 month to a year
delay from start of deployment in a given area until it is
operational. It would vary depending on the area of coverage
of course. VZ and T are beginning deployments in selected areas
this quarter, so I would guess sometime after September 2019 is
when these networks are in full use by customers using 5G
handsets.
Re handsets, I believe I heard that Samsung would have their 5G
handsets ready in the first half of 2019, whereas Apple would
sometime in the second half of 2019. September would be my guess,
since that is when Apple traditionally releases new models.

FYI: regardless of when 5G is deployed, we should remember
that the rollouts will be in phases across the US and the Globe, so
the revenue impact for Nokia and Ericson should be a mild positive
uptick at the beginning and grow o ver the next several
years. If I am correct, the cycle should last as many as 5 to
6 years as the deployments roll across the globe.

Given that the US Administration is strong arming Telcos in Ally
countries, those telcos will be replacing Huawei's 4G equipment at
the same time they start planning the 5G deployments. So,
there will be revenue from 4G still for some time to come.
This would be new revenue to Nokia and Ericson.

lt cap,
Yes, I had read articles which generally said that 5g handsets
would appear in time for the holiday season of 2019. Not that it
was definitive, but that's what was written.
