Nokia also won a deal in the UK.  This Lightreading.com article sheds more light on the deals.

lt cap,

Jeez, if we get any more NOK good news, we might be back in the $4's, given that NOK slipped 2% today. Just kidding, it does really sound like good news, and should be helpful to the stock, I'd think. A billion isn't peanuts.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Your post on INTC clearly showed they're having a hard time of it in the mobile/handset space, altho the news was largely about APPL, IIRC. And Microsoft no longer has a dog in the fight, apparently giving up on Windows phones entirely (in line with their competence in that endeavor.)  The company that's using NOK's branding - I'm assuming/hoping that's an entry level android phone, rather than windows. Yes?

2. This is really just personal, but....my phone, an old 4? 5? years? I really don't use it much except for talking and photos - no longer recognizes data cables. Which is a real pain in transferring info. But I probably don't want to sink $ into a new 4g phone when we're close to the cusp of 5g. Any idea of how long it'll take 5g to become viable for the average American consumer. It's not huge, I suppose I could buy a cheap Android 4g while I wait, but I'm curious.

TIA.

LOL Re NOK and too many good news.  The Rodney Dangerfield of stocks.

As to HMD Global, the company that brands its Phones with the NOK name:  All their offerings are Android based. Last year they sold over 80M phones (feature and Smart Phone varieties).

As to your second question, IMO it will be until late 2020 to early 2021 when 5G will be mainstream.  I would wait until at least then, the first 5G phones will be expensive, I would want to wait until all brands of phones have plenty of models, the pricing is likely to be much better at that point.
