OT - INTC AMD - Okay, at least at first glance this seems like
the makings of a price war, not unlike the war between Trump and
Kim Jong whatever, unless this is a very temporary fluke: Oct 5th -
INTC releases Coffee Lake, at prices that eclipse AMD's Ryzen
price/performance. Oct 6th: Amazon drops the price on a very
game-centeric/overclockable Ryzen 1700X by 25% - from $399 to $299.
At Best Buy, that chip has sold out already at a price of $352.
Perhaps it is a 'sale' that will quickly expire. If not, up to now,
every time AMD got in a price war with INTC, AMD got beaten like a
gong. I think this time they'd both suffer, and AMD is in a better
position to survive that, if not battle to a draw, than ever.
Wait and see. If this lasts, I don't want to look at stock prices
on Monday. Then again, most analysts on INTC tend to be behind the
curve.
Saw this Tomshardware.com story from 2pm (Eastern, I presume)
today. Interesting that Newegg had, but Amazon had yet to, price
the Ryzen 1700X at $299. As well as that, the majority of Coffee
Lake chips that were available are currently sold out. Feeding
frenzy?
