Jester,
Interesting 'Exodus' article you linked to. I'm not saying that
a higher minimum wage won't be at least a smoke screen for
companies to ship even more manufacturing jobs overseas. And I know
this may sound absurd, but I'm thinking also of those jobs
that can't get sent to Vietnam: Why not a Mcdonald's staffed by one
manager, and machines - some machines are production line making
the food, and robot voice 'counter' people take your order:
"I understand you want a large fries with that, is that right?"
I've probably said this before, but it pisses me off how both
parties not only refuse to admit there's a problem in wealth divide
(years ago the future prediction was that everyone would have a
life of leisure, with very little work. Naive to think that those
who are rich are going to care about those who are not enough to
share the wealth, rather than hoarding it). The parties, both
Democrat and Republican keep pushing the lie that we can move
manufacturing jobs back here, supporting a good, middle class
lifestyle. Nobody has the guts to tell the truth - unless you're
willing to work for $5 a day, there is no way manufacturing jobs
are returning to America. Not one of them ever speaks of the bottom
line fact that manual labor (incuding 'customer support centeres' -
lol) is a market where world-wide competition sets the price. And
I'm not sure whether the average person has enough knowledge of
basic economics to realize they're being lied to.
In Eisenhower's farewell speech (I'm supposing it was his last
State of the Union speech before departing), he warned about the
dangers of the 'military-industrial complex'.
I wonder what it would be like if Obama's last 'State' speech
was a 'come clean' admission: "My fellow Americans, it is with
sadness, but with integrity, that I tell you that 75% of you are
truly f*cked......"
Hilary seems the most egregious at telling lies about the labor
market in a worldwide economy. If Trump gets the nomination, I'm
hoping the Dems dump Hilary, and make Pee Wee Herman their
candidate. A contest of equals.
