3D XPoint possible catalyst for INTC

How fast can INTC and Micron can scale up production and cinching a deal with Apple could make it the standard.  This is  big market, it would be the stepping stone for INTC to buy enough time to stem the decline in CPU market.

lt cap,

Heh - just as I've said, INTC's prodigious R and D opens other paths. And the fact that they own their own fabs (no niggling about terms with the foundry) does not hurt. I'm joshing with you a bit, and one of the big Q's is whether such breakthr0ugh developments can really make a dent in offsetting the PC decline, which seems not just to be a pause but probably a sea-change in computing. If all it does is distract, rather than deliver to the bottom line, the day of reckoning is only delayed. And there are competitors out there (HP, NRAM). But first-to-market is a nice advantage, I'd think, if that's what they've got with talking about visible timelines to production and then market. Yes, of course - their having too many production problems with the latest die shrink on their cpus sure didn't inspire confidence. But, without having run a fab myself, I'd think (hope) that the nanometer precision that makes each die shrink more difficult, may not be a factor at all if that's not an issue for this new memory product. But maybe size does count :-)

The storage technologies being pursued by the different players do promise to shake that indusry, it would be profitable for those that can grab sufficient market share.  Wonder if the market could become fractured if 2 or more of those technologies find big enough customers to sustain them.

I too wonder who among these players (INTC-MU, HP, NRAM) is close to delivering these in high volume.
