2. It might help one of us in terms of putting things to rest for the year tax-wise

Got it from my broker - again, confirming sale of ALU will be taxable event but

it will be a 2016 taxable event.  I'd doubt they're careless enough to tell me this if they weren't sure, given the potential liability.
